The Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland Resort’s California Adventure is a fan-favorite for Halloween enthusiasts, where shorter lines for rides and a liberal costume policy come together to create an eerie, yet magical experience. Held throughout September and October, this after-hours event allows guests to engage with Disney’s rare villains on Treat Trails while collecting candy and snacks. However, the festive spirit took a slight hit this year when some attendees discovered that their treats were past their prime.

One guest took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a photo of the snacks he collected, suggesting Disneyland might be recycling last year’s leftovers or receiving stock that’s not the freshest. “I got these at this year’s Oogie Boogie Bash. Are they using last year’s supply lol,” he tweeted, sparking a flurry of similar complaints from other parkgoers. Another visitor noted, “I just checked and got something that expired over a month ago from Oogie Boogie Bash this past Thursday. Are they checking the treats being distributed…?”

One important note is that, technically, these snacks aren’t “expired,” but they certainly don’t seem to be in their peak state. While a few stale Goldfish Crackers may not be the end of the world, it’s certainly not the standard of quality one expects from a Disney event, which can be quite frustrating for fans who pay a premium for these experiences.

Despite this hiccup, there are still myriad reasons to attend the Oogie Boogie Bash. The unique character interactions on the Treat Trails are a major draw, especially with characters like zombie Captain America making rare appearances. Plus, attendees can enjoy all the other non-candy entertainment and Halloween-themed fun, including exclusive parades, impressive decorations, and specialty food offerings cooked fresh at the park’s restaurants and quick-service locations.

The festive ambiance, the thrill of nighttime attractions, and the overall spooky yet joyful vibe guarantee that the Oogie Boogie Bash remains a bucket-list event for Disney aficionados, minor snack snafu notwithstanding.
