It all began with a special visit to the park by 2-year-old Luca, a little boy from Los Angeles who is deaf and communicates using both American Sign Language (ASL) and English.

Luca’s mother, Callie Foster, couldn’t contain her excitement as she prepared Luca for his dream visit, telling him about meeting his favorite characters from the beloved Toy Story franchise. As the family approached Bo Peep and Woody, Callie introduced her son by signing, “This is Luca.” Woody warmly hugged Luca, but the magic truly unfolded when Bo Peep noticed the signing.

Bo Peep responded in ASL, greeting Luca with “Nice to meet you.” The interaction was a testament to Disney’s dedication to making every child feel special, recognized, and included. Foster and Bo Peep exchanged signs, and then Bo Peep knelt to Luca’s level, signing, “You’re our friend.” Luca joyfully tried to sign back, pointing out that Buzz and Jessie were nearby, creating an unforgettable, inclusive moment.

Reflecting on the magical day, Callie Foster said, “It was a small but incredibly touching moment that made us feel the true magic of Disney. The inclusivity, understanding, and acceptance—it was beautiful. Bo Peep signing ‘I love you’ felt like a scene straight out of a Disney dream.”

Since sharing the touching clip on TikTok under the handle @thelacouple, the video has garnered over 2.6 million views, with many praising Disney’s attentiveness to children with additional needs. One user even shared how Mickey Mouse had a similar calming effect on her son with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The viral encounter serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, particularly during Deaf Awareness Month. “In a world that can sometimes feel divided, this little piece of magic has reminded us all of the power of love, inclusion, and the joy of being seen and understood,” Foster added.
