A beloved piece of Downtown Disney history is making way for new magic. The vibrant Tortilla Jo’s, a fixture since 2004, closed its doors on April 13th and is now set to be demolished. The announcement comes as Disneyland transitions from nostalgia to novelty, expanding its offerings with a slew of exciting new developments.
The former Mexican cantina, renowned for its diverse array of dishes and lively cocktails, bade its final adios with heartfelt messages of gratitude. “Thank you, Tortilla Jo’s fans, for an incredible 20 years! We’re giving you one last chance to raise a glass and enjoy all of your favorites,” read the farewell post on Instagram. However, as one chapter closes, another exciting one begins.
Stepping into the spotlight are two new culinary ventures led by esteemed Chef Joe Isidori. The first is a sophisticated steakhouse promising a warm ambiance with prime beef, seafood, and classic salads. Alongside it, a dynamic quick-service barbecue eatery will highlight brisket, pulled pork, and moonshine cocktails. These ventures aim to elevate the dining scene in Downtown Disney, filling the void left by Tortilla Jo’s.
This transformation is part of a broader renovation vision that has swept through Downtown Disney. Previous staples like Catal Restaurant and UVA Bar were recently replaced by Paseo and Céntrico, innovative Mexican-themed spots crafted by Michelin-starred chef Carlos Gaytán. Upcoming plans include the temporary closure of Earl of Sandwich to pave the way for Porto’s Bakery, beloved for its Cuban pastries and savory delights.
Further enhancing the excitement, Destination D23—a Disney fan convention—signals more changes on the horizon. Slated to debut this winter are fresh stores and eateries, including Avengers Reserve, a thrilling new spot loaded with Marvel merchandise, and Disney’s Wonderful World of Sweets. This candy haven promises to tempt visitors with churro toffee and freshly made Werther’s caramel popcorn.
