Buckle up, Disney fans! Disney+Hotstar remains the undisputed leader among streaming platforms in India, boasting a commanding 26% market share. This major player, part of the extensive Disney family, has captured the hearts of millions by offering a rich blend of television dramas from Star, alongside an array of sports content from cricket to tennis. Their dominance is solidified with a staggering 38 million paid subscribers, all enjoying flexible subscription plans starting as low as ₹299 ($3.56) per month.

But Disney+Hotstar isn’t the only star shining bright on Indian screens. Amazon Prime Video, with a strong 23% market share and around 20 million subscribers, offers a treasure trove of movies and TV shows. The platform also caters to movie renters and provides access through Amazon Prime memberships priced between ₹299 per month to ₹1,499 annually.

Not far behind is Netflix, which holds a 13% market share and views India as a crucial demographic. With an audience of 10 million, Netflix offers a variety of films, series, and animated content. Four subscription plans are available, ranging from ₹149 to ₹649 per month, ensuring there’s an option for every budget.

ZEE5, the streaming arm of ZEE Entertainment Enterprises, captures 11% of the market. With content from Zee’s extensive library and film rentals, it offers three subscription plans between ₹299 per month and ₹1,199 annually. However, a substantial $10 billion merger with Sony Group was recently abandoned due to unresolved disputes.

Relatively modest but formidable is JioCinema, owned by Reliance Industries, holding a 7% market share. This platform primarily features TV shows and content from international giants HBO and Paramount. Meanwhile, Sony LIV, another contender under Sony Pictures Networks India, claims a 4% share with varied subscription plans.

These platforms are jostling for a slice of India’s $28 billion entertainment market, newly ignited by Apple signing a lucrative content deal with Bharti Airtel.
