Exciting changes are coming to Disneyland’s beloved Peter Pan’s Flight ride! In an effort to provide a more inclusive and sensitive portrayal, Disney has announced plans to update the attraction to remove stereotypical depictions of Indigenous people. This update mirrors similar changes made recently at Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, where scenes involving the Never Land Tribe, including the chief in a headdress and braves drumming, were thoughtfully reimagined.

In the updated version at Disney World, guests encounter a reimagined scene where Tiger Lily and her mother engage in a dance around the fire, accompanied by tribe members with a ceremonial drum. Disneyland officials confirmed that comparable modifications will be made at the Anaheim park, emphasizing their commitment to “thoughtful” changes. Although the specific timeline for these updates has yet to be revealed, Disney’s “imagineers” are deeply involved in ensuring that the transformation is respectful and engaging.

Peter Pan’s Flight isn’t new to changes. The ride, one of Disneyland’s original attractions since its debut in 1955, already saw significant updates in 1983, granting Tiger Lily and the Never Land Tribe a more pronounced role. Disney’s recent and past efforts show a clear and ongoing commitment to removing offensive stereotypes from its attractions, ensuring that their whimsical worlds remain welcoming to all guests.

Disney’s proactive stance doesn’t stop at theme parks. The entertainment giant has also added content warnings to several of its classic films, such as “Peter Pan,” addressing outdated and inappropriate racial portrayals. When watching the beloved 1953 film on Disney+, a disclaimer reminds viewers, “These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.”

Fans of Disney parks have also seen iconic rides like Splash Mountain reimagined. Formerly inspired by the contentious 1946 film “Song of the South,” the ride has now been transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, celebrating the charm and magic of “The Princess and the Frog.”

Disney continues to evolve, ensuring its magical experiences are both timeless and forward-thinking. What do you think about these changes? Share your thoughts in the comments below and join the conversation!
