Bob Iger, the visionary leader behind The Walt Disney Company, recently made headlines in an engaging podcast episode of “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.” The episode provided a deep dive into the ongoing search for Disney’s next CEO, Iger’s contemplation of a presidential run, and his reflections on past decisions.

In the nearly hour-long episode, Iger emphasized the crucial importance of finding a successor. “I think it would be safe to assume that I think about [CEO succession] all the time,” he said. “I could say that I’m obsessed with it would be probably an understatement.” He acknowledged that it’s a top priority not only for him but also for the board.

Returning to Disney in 2022 after the controversial dismissal of Bob Chapek, Iger is set to maintain his leadership role until the end of 2026. Potential candidates for the CEO position include Dana Walden and Alan Bergman from Disney Entertainment, ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro, and Josh D’Amaro, head of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.

Addressing rumors about a potential bid for the U.S. presidency, Iger recounted a conversation with an influential Democratic leader who suggested he run for office because he “looked the part.” Despite notable support, including encouragement from Oprah Winfrey in 2020, Iger dismissed the notion, stating, “That’s not enough.”

Reflecting on his prior comments about Disney’s linear TV assets, Iger admitted that publicly questioning their importance was a mistake that caused unnecessary anxiety. “I should have been more sensitive to how those words would be not just interpreted, but how they would be felt by people who are really important to me,” he said.

For lighter moments, the podcast also revealed personal tidbits, such as Iger’s fondness for mozzarella cheese and country artist Zach Bryan, and reassurances that his youthful appearance was thanks to good genes and self-care, apart from a few medical procedures.
