Big changes are on the horizon for Disneyland Resort, promising to transform the guest experience in Southern California. Disney California Adventure Park, the iconic counterpart to Disneyland Park, is set to introduce a host of new attractions over the coming years. The spotlight is on an all-new ride inspired by the beloved Pixar film “Coco” (2017), marking Disney’s first venture into bringing the vibrant world of Miguel and his skeletal companions to life in a major attraction.

The announcement came from Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro at the “Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase” during the recent D23 Expo. D’Amaro shared that the new “Coco” ride will draw inspiration from classic dark rides like The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. Promising groundbreaking Audio-Animatronics technology, the attraction aims to captivate visitors with characters that seem almost lifelike. Concept art revealed during the Expo gave fans a sneak peek, although an official opening date and specific location within the park remain under wraps. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026.

But “Coco” isn’t the only exciting news for Disney California Adventure Park. The park will also undergo significant expansion at Avengers Campus, with two new rides destined to double the size of this Marvel-themed area. Additionally, D’Amaro hinted at an Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) inspired attraction, though details about its exact placement and opening schedule are still forthcoming.

For those eager to dive into the magic of “Coco” ahead of the ride’s debut, a new show titled “The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate The Musical World of Coco!” will premiere on August 30, 2024, as part of the park’s Plaza de la Familia festivities, which run through November 2.
