Exciting changes are coming to Walt Disney World, much to the delight (and occasional dismay) of Disney fans worldwide! At the recent Disney Experiences Showcase during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro unveiled a slew of enthralling new lands, attractions, and experiences set to debut in Disney parks globally.

“Today, we unveiled an extensive slate of new experiences that only Disney can deliver,” D’Amaro announced. Among the thrilling additions is a new “Cars”-themed area coming to Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. This area will be a thrilling expansion, featuring two brand-new attractions including an exciting off-roading race inspired by the beloved “Cars” films and franchise characters like Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater. The construction of this vibrant new area is set to begin in 2025, replacing the classic Rivers of America attractions, the Liberty Square Riverboat, and Tom Sawyer Island.

Understandably, this news brings mixed emotions for Disney fans. As exciting as the new “Cars” area sounds, saying goodbye to iconic attractions is always tough. Disney knows this well, and they’ve assured guests there will still be ample time to enjoy the Rivers of America before it transforms into a “rough and rugged” racetrack.

But that’s not all! Disney also announced the creation of an enchanting villains-themed land behind Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom. The chills and thrills don’t end there; a “Monsters, Inc.” land is heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, while Disney’s Animal Kingdom is set to welcome a Tropical Americas land inspired by “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones.” Although the beloved Dinosaur attraction will be making way for this new land, there’s still time for fans to enjoy it before it becomes extinct.

These transformative projects underscore Disney’s commitment to both innovation and storytelling. Michael Hundgen from Walt Disney Imagineering passionately emphasized, “We are thrilled to create this original Cars adventure. Any time we touch Magic Kingdom, we recognize the massive responsibility that exists to get it right and tell stories that connect with our guests.”
