Exciting news emerged from this year’s D23 Expo, Disney’s annual fan extravaganza, that promises to significantly reshape the landscapes of Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. The biggest headline? The Magic Kingdom will introduce an entirely new land dedicated to the company’s legendary villains. For decades, iconic characters like Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Ursula have played second fiddle to Disney’s heroes. Now, they’ll be taking center stage in a grand, dark, and certainly captivating new environment. While Disney hasn’t pinpointed an exact opening date, they did tease two major attractions alongside themed dining and shopping options.
Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro couldn’t hide his enthusiasm, highlighting how much room this expansion gives the famed Imagineers, Disney’s park designers, to let their creativity soar. As he put it, “In this new land, you’ll see storytelling on a grand scale that only Disney can deliver.”
In addition to Villains Land, the Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland will expand to feature the town of Radiator Springs from the beloved “Cars” films. This transformation will see landmarks like the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island evolve into a rally racing wonderland, complete with some of the world’s most iconic racers. The upcoming additions symbolize the largest expansion in the park’s rich history, promising new, thrilling experiences for guests.
Over at the Animal Kingdom, Disney announced Tropical Americas, a new section set to debut in 2027. This land will include attractions based on “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones,” adding even more adventure and enchantment to the park. Meanwhile, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will welcome a fresh Pixar’s “Monster’s Inc.” land with a groundbreaking suspended rollercoaster.
Not to be outdone, Disneyland California Adventure will see the arrival of two new Marvel-themed attractions and a ride inspired by “Avatar: The Way of Water.” These additions will mark a significant expansion of the popular Avengers Campus, whisking guests away on epic superhero missions.
What are your thoughts on these massive expansions? Which new land or attraction are you most excited about? Share your viewpoints in the comments and join the conversation with fellow Disney enthusiasts!
