Exciting news for Disney fans! Disney has officially revealed that the much-anticipated “Avatar” experience at the Disneyland Resort will be a new land featuring a thrilling boat ride. This announcement follows over a year of hints from Disney CEO Bob Iger about a new “Avatar” themed addition. The stunning concept art released recently depicts a fantastical island with towering rock formations, cascading waterfalls, glowing blue pools, and lush greenery—truly reminiscent of the world of Pandora.
During D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro, alongside Imagineer Ali Rubinstein, introduced the new attraction, emphasizing its inspiration from “Avatar: The Way of Water.” Visitors will embark on an unforgettable adventure, traversing the unexplored wonders of Pandora. The ride promises not only awe-inspiring beauty but also the thrilling excitement and inherent dangers synonymous with the “Avatar” universe. The concept art teases an epic journey with guests encountering giant sea monsters under a luminous, otherworldly sky.
The new “Avatar” land will find its home in Disney California Adventure. It’s speculated that this expansion will utilize some of the existing spaces in Hollywood Land, as well as some unused areas, and will feature a ride system similar to Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure in Shanghai Disneyland. This technological innovation is set to offer a unique experience distinct from the Na’vi River Journey in Florida’s Pandora.
Development of the “Avatar” experience involved key figures, including “Avatar” producer Jon Landau, who visited Walt Disney Imagineering headquarters earlier this year to discuss the project. Although Landau sadly passed away, he left his mark on this ambitious endeavor, which D’Amaro confirmed during the D23 presentation.
With two captivating “Avatar” films already out and three more in the pipeline, Disney Parks continues to expand and evolve its attractions, ensuring that fans are transported to the extraordinary world of Pandora. The buzz surrounding this new land is palpable, and Disney lovers are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
