Anticipation and excitement are building as Disney fans from across the globe prepare to gather at the Anaheim Convention Center from August 9 to 11 for the ultimate fan experience, D23. Right next to Disneyland Resort, this biennial event promises the most significant announcements of the year from the magic makers at Disney.

The highlight of the event will undoubtedly be the Disney Experiences Showcase hosted by Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro. Set for the evening of August 10, this showcase will unveil a wealth of updates about the future of Disney’s globally renowned theme parks. Industry experts expect significant revelations concerning Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort, and Disney Cruise Line, following last year’s announcement by D’Amaro and Disney CEO Bob Iger of a $60 billion investment plan over the next decade.

One of the most eagerly awaited updates involves the “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” expansion at Magic Kingdom. This expansion aims to utilize the area behind Frontierland, and early concepts suggest exciting additions like Coco and villains-themed sections. Although details may remain speculative to allow flexibility depending on future film successes, fans can expect more concrete plans to be revealed soon.

DisneylandForward, an initiative aimed at transforming Disneyland Resort with new rides and lands, is also on the radar. The Anaheim City Council recently gave its nod to this multiyear project, and fans are hopeful for updates on an Avatar-themed area reminiscent of Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida. The buzz also surrounds a new ride in Avengers Campus and fresh plans for Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary next year.

The Disney Cruise Line isn’t left out of the magic. With rapid expansion plans including four new ships by 2029, all eyes will be on the Disney Treasure, set to sail this December. Boasting unique features like a Haunted Mansion Bar, this ship is sure to be a highlight, alongside smaller updates for other ships in the fleet.
