The Hollywood Bowl has long been a cherished venue for unforgettable performances, and this summer, Disney fans have been treated to a delightful array of concerts that span the magical realms of Disney’s storied history. With nights dedicated to ’80s and ’90s Disney classics, a tribute to the legendary composer John Williams, and a heart-thumping Marvel concert on the horizon, the Hollywood Bowl has truly become a haven for Disney enthusiasts.
Earlier this summer, the “Disney ’80s-’90s Celebration in Concert” enchanted audiences with performers like Corbin Bleu, Adam J. Levy, and Susan Egan, alongside Disney Legends such as Bill Farmer and Jodi Benson. Conducted by Sarah Hicks, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra brought a wave of nostalgia, playing beloved tunes from “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and more. But it wasn’t just the classic hits that stole the show; lesser-known gems like the theme from Disney Afternoon and songs from “Newsies” had the crowd cheering.
One of the evening’s biggest surprises was the inclusion of “Journey to the Past” from the Fox animated film “Anastasia,” now a Disney title following the 2019 acquisition of Fox. It was heartwarming to see this new member of the Disney family celebrated so enthusiastically. The night concluded with Bill Farmer, the long-time voice of Goofy, delighting fans with “I 2 I” from “A Goofy Movie,” leaving everyone with beaming smiles.
A week later, the Hollywood Bowl honored John Williams with “Maestro of the Movies: The Music of John Williams and More.” This annual event is a pilgrimage for fans, lightsabers in hand, to celebrate the maestro’s iconic scores from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones series, both now under the Disney umbrella. Even though Williams couldn’t attend due to illness, David Newman picked up the baton brilliantly, ensuring every note resonated perfectly with the audience.
But wait, there’s more for Marvel aficionados! Mark your calendars for August 30th and 31st, when “Marvel Studios’ Infinity Saga Concert Experience” will bring the epic saga to life with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Relive the journey from the Asgardians hiding the Tesseract on Earth to Tony Stark’s heroic sacrifice—all accompanied by riveting live music. Don’t miss out on this cinematic and musical extravaganza.
