A somber event has cast a shadow over Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Long-time employee Bonnye Mavis Lear, who served Disney devotedly for 24 years, tragically passed away following a severe accident involving a golf cart.
The accident occurred when Lear, 60, was a passenger in a golf cart moving at approximately 20 miles per hour. A sudden jolt caused the vehicle to hit a bump, propelling Lear off the cart when she grabbed a handrail that unexpectedly gave way. The fall resulted in a critical head injury, as reported by her colleague Rae Delgado on Facebook and confirmed by The Orange County Register.
Known for her unwavering commitment, Lear recently worked as administrative staff in membership services at Club 33 in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square. The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on a Wednesday, drawing an immediate emergency response from Anaheim police and other first responders.
Despite being rushed to a hospital, Lear succumbed to her injuries two days later. The Anaheim Police Department’s ongoing investigation has ruled out the involvement of drugs or alcohol. The driver of the golf cart remained unharmed.
Disneyland Resort president Ken Potrock expressed deep sorrow, extending heartfelt condolences to Lear’s family and colleagues. “We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to everyone who knew and cared for her,” stated Potrock.
