Initially debuting at Disneyland in 1989 and later at Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland in 1992, the original Splash Mountain was built around characters from the 1946 film “Song of the South.” However, due to longstanding criticisms regarding the film’s racial stereotypes and romanticized depiction of the antebellum South, Disney has chosen to reimagine the ride with a more inclusive and culturally sensitive theme.
While the log flume structure remains the same, the experience has undergone a breathtaking transformation to capture the essence of the bayou and the spirit of Tiana. Early previews of the ride are being rolled out to park employees and annual passholders, ensuring they get a first look at the revamped adventure.
Disneyland in California will also receive its own Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, although its debut date remains under wraps for now. Fans of Tokyo Disneyland will notice that their Splash Mountain will keep its original theme intact.
