Exciting times are ahead for Walt Disney World, as the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) has given the initial green light to a massive $17 billion investment plan over the next 10 to 20 years! This ambitious project promises to bring significant expansions to Disney’s theme parks, hotels, and retail spaces, enhancing the magic like never before.
The board, packed with members appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, came to a unanimous decision to advance Disney’s grand vision. The final vote is set for June 12, and all signs point to a favorable outcome. Under this proposed agreement, Disney commits to investing at least $8 billion within the first decade. Picture this: up to five new minor theme parks and extensive upgrades to existing hotels and retail areas. It’s almost too much excitement to handle!
But that’s not all. Disney’s plan goes beyond just entertainment and glitter. They have pledged that a whopping 50 percent of their project budget will benefit Florida-based businesses. This includes donating up to 100 acres of land for critical public infrastructure projects, such as new roadways, water and sewer systems, and offering mitigation credits for environmental preservation.
In a significant move to support the local community, Disney is also dedicating $10 million over the next ten years for attainable housing projects. On top of that, major infrastructure developments, such as a new four-lane roadway on World Drive North and expanded lanes on Western Way and Buena Vista Drive, are also in the pipeline. This initiative even includes adding dedicated bus lanes on Buena Vista Drive, aiming to make travel around the resort more efficient and enjoyable.
We can’t wait to see how these plans unfold and how they will transform the already-magic-filled world of Disney. What are your thoughts on Disney’s grand vision for the future?
