Hey Disney fans! We’ve got some fantastic news coming out of Disney’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) operations. Disney EMEA recently reported a staggering revenue of $4.9 billion for this past year, driven largely by their robust streaming services and blockbuster films.
Covering the period from October 2022 to the end of September 2023, Disney’s EMEA financial report, submitted to the U.K.’s Companies House, highlights an impressive increase of £700 million from the previous year. Profits also saw a significant uptick, rising from £402 million in 2022 to a commendable £571 million.
A significant £3.3 billion of the revenue came from Disney’s thriving entertainment sectors, which include TV, streaming, and film distribution, among others. Films like “Elemental” and the live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid,” featuring the talented Halle Bailey, have made a huge splash. On the streaming front, Disney+ saw strong engagement with popular series such as new seasons of “The Bear” and “The Kardashians.”
Bob Iger’s recent strategic shift for Disney television distribution, which includes giving more windows to other platforms instead of exclusively keeping content on Disney+, seems to have paid off. In the U.K., for instance, Disney+ originals have been licensed to linear networks, broadening their audience reach.
However, Disney remains vigilant of the challenges it faces, including economic shifts and IP protection. With characters like Mickey Mouse nearing the end of their copyright protection, it’s pivotal for Disney to navigate these waters effectively to continue generating revenue from its iconic properties.
