As faithful participants since the conference’s inception, Dow and Krasovic offered insights into their exciting progress over the past four years.
Dow emphasized Disney’s holistic approach to sustainable design, noting that interdisciplinary collaboration is crucial. She highlighted successful, environmentally-friendly projects now ready to open, each embedding sustainability from the outset. Krasovic updated attendees on Disney’s Sustainability and Social Impact Report, announcing The Walt Disney Company’s validation by the Science Based Targets initiative for its greenhouse gas reduction targets.
Notable projects include the solar initiatives at Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disney Resort, enhancing their renewable energy portfolios. Disneyland Paris continues to shine with its solar canopy over guest parking. These renewable energy efforts are part of Disney’s broader strategy to achieve near net zero emissions by 2030, with efforts spanning energy efficiency, lower-carbon fuels, and electrification.
Water conservation remains a priority too. Shanghai Disneyland is saving millions of gallons of potable water annually by recycling water in restrooms. Similarly, at Walt Disney World, innovative irrigation systems reclaim water, while Hong Kong Disneyland’s Jungle River Cruise is now refilled with rainwater.
Disney’s future looks bright with the upcoming Avatar experience at Disneyland and the exciting DisneylandForward project in Anaheim. Both illustrate Disney’s enduring commitment to imaginative, sustainable development strategies that align with its 2030 environmental goals.
