Disneyland has always been a hub of enchantment and mystery, and one of its most intriguing secrets is the exclusive Club 33, nestled in the heart of New Orleans Square. If you’ve ever walked the streets of Disneyland, you might have noticed a particular door with a blue frame and the number 33—this is the gateway to a world known to only a select few since it was founded in 1967.
Originally serving as a private dining area for Walt Disney to entertain VIPs, Club 33 famously became the only spot within the park to offer alcohol for many years. Over time, whispers about this elite club spread, transforming it into an open secret within the Disney community. Today, Club 33 has expanded its reach with outposts in Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland.
In an exciting new development, Disney has announced a film inspired by this elusive club. Tapped to write the script is Darren Lemke, whose notable family-friendly works include “Goosebumps” and “Shazam!”. Bringing even more magic to the project is Shawn Levy, known for his work on “Night at the Museum” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” who will produce the movie alongside Dan Levine and Dan Cohen through 21 Laps Entertainment.
The plot centers around Kim, a young and budding detective in New York City, who is mysteriously invited to Club 33—a magical dining club that exists outside of time and space. This fantastical venue brings together some of history’s most iconic figures, including royalty, geniuses, and historical luminaries. The twist comes when a murder disrupts the peace, thrusting Kim into the spotlight to solve the crime in this timeless setting.
This latest endeavor is part of Disney’s ongoing strategy to draw cinematic inspiration from its theme park attractions. Following in the successful footsteps of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” the upcoming Club 33 movie joins a lineup of film adaptations like “Tomorrowland,” “Jungle Cruise,” and “Haunted Mansion.” Even less prominent attractions are getting the Hollywood treatment, with Ron Moore developing a series based on the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, and Ryan Reynolds working on a film on the same subject.
