Shanghai Disney Resort recently joined hands with National Geographic to mark Earth Day with a flurry of environmental activities and discussions. On Monday, the resort hosted a Nature Conservation Forum under the poignant theme, “Taking Action Together to Protect, Restore and Celebrate Our Planet.” The forum gathered experts from various sectors who exchanged invaluable insights on safeguarding our environment and conserving wildlife, all with the aim of kindling greater awareness and sparking action among participants.
Joe Schott, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, emphasized Disney’s commitment to environmental stewardship. “Every year, Earth Month and the beauty of spring are great reminders of our responsibility to protect the planet we all share,” Schott remarked. He expressed hope that the forum and other activities would promote impactful collaborations for a sustainable future.
Notably, the forum featured Xi Zhinong, a renowned National Geographic explorer, who shared breathtaking wildlife photographs and compelling stories, aiming to inspire conservation action through his imagery. A diverse panel discussion also took place, with representatives from organizations like the World Wildlife Fund and the Nature Conservancy sharing their perspectives and ongoing efforts to protect the environment.
Adding to the festivities, the resort hosted an eco-friendly market from April 19 to 22, featuring 22 booths dedicated to environmental themes. Highlights included a debut performance by the JAMMitors, who used makeshift instruments crafted from recycled materials found around the resort, illustrating the importance of waste sorting and recycling through rhythmic beats.
Family-friendly activities such as a nature-themed reading session also took center stage, featuring a story from Pixar’s “Up” read by He Xin from the Shanghai Wild Bird Society. The event encouraged kids and their families to learn about conservation in a fun and engaging way.
Concluding the Earth Week celebrations, Disney VoluntEARs are set to partake in a beach cleanup at Shanghai’s Chongming Island, highlighting their ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility.
